"DEADSLEEP'S DEBUT ALBUM WAKES UP             THE METAL GIANT AND KICKS HIS ASS"

"I was thinking about how best to describe the hard and heavy debut album from DeadSleep(Falling To Pieces) this morning. Now I’m not a critic, but only a writer that has a passion for good music, especially if it rocks. And this album does just that, so I wanted to give Desi Pena’slatest project, its fair share of praise.  So I closed my eyes, and tried to visualize what his music meant to me, and this is what I saw:

Picture a desert wasteland and you are standing in the valley of all this desolation. And as you look up at the windblown mountains that surround you, a vast army led by four horsemen blots out the sun as they appear. The air thickens and becomes electrified with the sense of impending doom, and at first this gives you pause, until you realize that they have not come to wage war against you. Simultaneously, a slew of war drums echo in unison as this deadly army charges toward their enemy below…

Desi Pena, the sole member of DeadSleep, is no stranger to the battlefield otherwise known as the music business. Pena grew up in a family full of musicians, and his father had him playing the drums by the age of five. Eventually, he picked up the guitar and Pena has never looked back. He was one of the founding members of a band called, Element. And they rocked everything from backyard parties to dive bars across Long Island for seven years until they broke up.

Now after twenty-plus years of playing music, Pena has come out with an album that not only pushes the envelope of metal, but it also showcases his talent as a musician, producer and engineer. And it is easy to hear the raw emotion that Pena captured in the recording of these tracks.

Being a fan of so many bands, ranging from rock to thrash metal, DeadSleep has incorporated all of that into this album. But where many bands in the thrash metal genre sacrifice quality musicianship for that chaotic, (pumping the low E sting as fast as you can) sound, DeadSleep brings solid guitar work with a host of melodic phrases and headbanging groves. And although he never thought of himself to be a singer until he hit the recording studio, it’s evident that Pena can sing.

If you been starving for some new music, and need your metal hunger fed, check out DeadSleep’s new album ‘Falling To Pieces’…Standout tracks include: Someday, The Chant and my favorite, I.D.K.

"Heavily equipped with a cutting edge sound,           up and coming Heavy Metal/Thrash band          DeadSleep packs a punch with this debut CD"

"Heavily equipped with a cutting edge sound, up and coming Heavy Metal/Thrash band Dead Sleep packs a punch with this debut CD. Signed to Washington, DC based label Potomac Records, singer/song writer Desi Pena has written and produced a full length recording entitled "Falling to Pieces", which was released on April 24, 2012.

No stranger to the music world, Desi brings 20+ year's experience to the table. This completely self-taught musician came out the gate guns blazing. Originally from New York, Desi was one of the original founders of the Long Island-based band, Element. The group performed together for seven years. Taking the knowledge he had acquired, he decided to start on a new project, and hence Dead Sleep was born.

Busting through the metal mold, this album demonstrates his potential not only vocally but as a producer/engineer. His combination of catchy and melodic lines mixed with clean chugging guitar, gut wrenching screams and hard hitting speed beats leaves you white knuckled and can only be described as a heart attack from beginning to end. If there is one aspect of the album that stands out it is his remarkable level of pure and superior guitar skills displayed on tracks such as "The Chant", "Someday", and "I.D.K".

Being a fan of so many different bands throughout the years ranging from rock to death metal, Dead Sleep has incorporated all of that into this album. When asked, lead singer Desi Pena states his personal influences are the likes of Marty Friedman, Dimebag Darrell, Zakk Wylde and John Petrucci, some of the best guitar players the world has to offer.

Dead Sleep has spent the last few months working diligently with Kirk Chaney - (Kirkland Studios) Digital Mastering/Engineer/Potomac Records to master each song to perfection on the "Falling to Pieces" album. Both Desi Pena and Kirk Chaney will be making their first television guest appearance on the Front Row Show to discuss the album, signing to Potomac Records and the release date. Desi is scheduled to start his U.S & Canadian tour this year, bringing together a slew of extremely talented musicians."
